Much of Lucy’s earlier work dealt with revealing something hidden or giving form to something that would otherwise go unnoticed. Microscopic imagery, particularly of familiar objects, can often surprise us with its beauty and subjects such as mushrooms gills, simple pencil marks on paper, loo roll and eggshell all made for fascinating study. Likewise, cellular slides became the muse for a series of works entitled Histos. And in Exposure, the trails left behind in bubble chambers became inspiration for works that reveal the process of their making - where the patterns left on the surface of the piece after sanding away the top layers of plaster, expose a moment of energy spent on that creative journey. The experimental approach Lucy took to achieve these works is an integral part of her practise.
